What to Expect

Procedural Abortion - 1 Day
In clinic abortion procedure performed before 20 weeks
- Complete paperwork
- Have an ultrasound exam
- Complete lab work
- Meet with our patient educator
- You will learn what to expect during your procedure
- You will learn what to expect after your procedure
- You will have as much time as you’d like to speak with our nurses and clinicians to make sure all of your questions are answered.
- You will be brought to our exam room for the abortion procedure, where the pregnancy will be removed.
- At this time you will receive IV sedation and pain medication.
- After the procedure is complete, you will then be in our recovery room for at least 60 minutes before being discharged.
Procedural Abortion - 2 Day
In clinic abortion procedure performed from 20 weeks to 27 weeks
- Complete paperwork
- Have an ultrasound exam
- Complete lab work
- Meet with our patient educator
- You will learn what to expect during your procedure
- You will learn what to expect after your procedure
- You will have as much time as you’d like to speak with our nurses and clinicians to make sure all of your questions are answered.
After your intake process is complete:
- You will then be brought to our exam room for a quick pelvic exam and additional medication will be administered to help dilate your cervix overnight.
- We also might give you an abdominal injection to safely and gently end the pregnancy before the procedure, ensuring everything can be done as comfortably and carefully as possible.
- We will provide you with several pain medications to keep you comfortable and to minimize the cramping.
You will receive 24-hour support throughout the abortion process via our dedicated after-hours call line.
- You will be brought to an exam room to have your water broken
- After that, the procedure may be completed right away, or you may be given additional medications to assist with dilating your cervix more before the procedure.
- At this time you will receive IV sedation and pain medication.
- After the procedure is complete, you will then be in our recovery room for at least 90 minutes before being discharged.
Procedural Abortion - 3 Day
In clinic abortion procedure performed 28 weeks+

- You will learn what to expect during your procedure
- You will learn what to expect after your procedure
- You will have as much time as you’d like to speak with our nurses and clinicians to make sure all of your questions are answered
- You will then be brought to our exam room for a quick pelvic exam and additional medication will be administered to help dilate your cervix overnight.
- We also might give you an abdominal injection to safely and gently end the pregnancy before the procedure, ensuring everything can be done as comfortably and carefully as possible.

- You will learn what to expect after your medication abortion
- You will have as much time as you’d like to speak with our nurses and clinician to make sure all of your questions are answered.
After your intake process:
You will be sent home with the medication abortion pills, as well as clear instructions on how to administer the medication.
Follow-Up:
Follow-up care after a medication abortion is important to confirm that the process is complete and that you are recovering well. This may include an ultrasound, a series of blood tests, or an at-home pregnancy test taken 5-6 weeks later. Our team will talk through each option with you and help determine the approach that best fits your needs.
Injection Only
Injection only care plans are coordinated with our medical team and the receiving physician.

- You will then be brought to our exam room for an abdominal injection to safely and gently end the pregnancy
- You will return home to your physician for the labor & delivery
- OR we will help you coordinate the labor & delivery at a partnering hospital in Colorado
